"What is hell? I maintain that it is the suffering of being unable to love."

So I've read the David McDuff translation of The Brothers Karamazov (Penguin Classics) and it was really decent enough.

Review: So yes, it is indeed a huge book, around 900+ pages. However I finished it in 20 days. Well the story is about the murder of a landowner, an old, brutal geezer, who is sort of hated by his three sons and perhaps also by his fourth illegitimate son. The story was simple, yet complicated, and at the same time beautifully written. Dostoyevsky digs deeper than ever into the minds of his characters, psyche, bringing them into life. He literally puts his own ideologies into the characters, and seeks for answers. For example, like he did put his atheist nature in Ivan Fyodorvich which we can all see. And definitely how can we not notice the Holy Grail of rationality in the chapter, "The Grand Inquistor"? Also, in "Mutiny". And definitely in "The Devil, Ivan Fyodorvich's Nightmare".

Likewise, he took his religious ideas, as a believer and put them into Alyosha or Alexei Fyodorvich; and even though Ivan intellect was in clash with Alyosha's believe so much in the verge of shattering it, that one almost forgets to take deep notice about the Biblical reference put upon by Dostoyevsky. About the Church and Jesus' Second Coming. This book is like the very Holy Bible for readers.

What makes this novel stand out is, that unlike Crime and Punishment, where we saw the characters only how Raskolnikov viewed them, in The Brothers Karamazov, we see the characters for who they really are as its narrated somewhat in a 3rd person narrative point of view. This I loved about TBK. There were many characters, and each was given their own spotlight, voice, ideologies and roles. This is a book, very well written. And culturally executed.

In the last last Book, I absolutely loved the court scenes. Ippolit vs Fetyukovich. That actually gave me goosebumps when they both presented their thought regarding the defendant. I absolutely loved this book.

My rating is 10/10 for this book. Its not only a novel, it's THE NOVEL.
