(This book consists of 2 novellas)
1) Notes From Underground:This is a book for everyone, and no one... When I think of this one, I actually realise how rotten my core feels, almost disgusting in the most intelligent and dramatic way. In this story, the narrator is anonymous, vaguely described as 'The Underground Man' who used to be a civil clerk, who, is absolutely toxic like the most of us in the most straightforward way... Reading this almost felt like a slap of reality to me.. tight on my face. He talks about the innermost psychological matters that we weave in our mind, in our all being... and friends its not beautiful at all.. I mean this guy, reflects your innermost turmoil, the innermost tar as a mirror. It either leaves you in awe, or in total disgust. This is to be said the first ever existential novel ever written...the crisis seems too real and too relatable.
I repeat: THIS IS A BOOK FOR EVERYONE AND NO ONE.
2) The Double: I was actually surprised. I wasn't expecting this. I have read all the great novels of Dostoyevsky and even though The Double was a novella, it surprised me because this was something very different from Dostoyevsky. It was a different approach. And I absolutely loved it.
Imagine.. One day you are walking in a cold, damp street in the dark of night.. And suddenly you stumble upon someone accidentally.. Who could it be? Who? You look at him and alas!! Its you!! Same eyes, lips, hair, style, same face and even the very same name!! Your Double!! The Double! The exact evil twin, or perhaps is it just your imagination? A manifestation of your other personality, of your illusions and fears? What could it be? The answer lays in the cliffhanger.
I enjoyed it thoroughly!
It took me 7-8 days to complete the book. Loved it.
I can't rate it, its out of my league.
